The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is supplying food packs for both lunch and dinner free of cost.
Every day, the GHMC Control Room gets calls from residents in containment zones seeking assistance and food and on Tuesday also it received 180 calls from the zones. Accordingly, the officials arranged food for the residents in association with mobile Annapurna centres and other volunteers.
For many residents, especially from low income groups, arranging groceries and cooking in containment zones has become tough. Both lunch and dinner food packs are being offered to them for free, said an official from
GHMC.
Not just the low income groups, this service is coming handy for many residents in containment zones.
For instance, in a particular case, a man was shifted to Gandhi Hospital on testing Covid-19 positive and his wife was also quarantined. This left the other members of the family including the children at home and the civic body helped them by providing food.
Every day, the municipal corporation offers about 600 to 800 food packs to residents in containment zones. Soon after a call is received, the officials alert local staff or volunteers and food packs are provided to them for handing over to residents.
