The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), on Monday, opened its swimming pools for public use. This was announced by the Hyderabad mayor, Bonthu Rammohan, while formally inaugurated the GHMC swimming pool in Amberpet.
The civic body has 10 pools in Hyderabad, of which three are mini pools. And unlike last year, interested residents can enrol themselves through an online portal to avail of these facilities. The monthly fee is Rs.500 plus an additional Rs.10 for enrolment. The members can to avail of the pools for an hour per day.
While the GHMC, till date, has had around 1,200 people enrol with it to use these pools,
officials are hopeful of this count shooting up to 2,000 over the next few weeks. Also, officials said that they will be using granules imported from China, instead of chlorine, to clean the pools henceforth. “These granules clean the water more efficiently than chlorine. The granule balls absorb the dust and dissolve in water,” said S R Premraj, OSD (sports).
The GHMC has also introduced a pay and play scheme wherein people/organisations can visit its official website www.ghmc.gov.in and avail services at its 13 sports complexes, 14 indoor stadiums, nine outdoor stadiums and 10 swimming pools and playgrounds.
