Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has decided to levy tariff on hoardings basing on their size and issue licence for erecting billboards online. Apart from it, the GHMC will also place all the data relating to the hoardings in the public domain to ensure transparency and accountability.
According to an official, the civic body has been securing Rs 36 crore revenue a year
from all hoardings erected in the city. Sources in the GHMC estimated that as many as 3,000 unauthorised hoardings came up and they caused Rs 100 crore revenue loss to the exchequer. The sources attributed to the rise of unauthorised hoardings to the apathy on the part of the circle level officials. The circle level officials are allegedly hand in glove with the advertisement agencies.
