The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has decided to introduce the Urban Junction Improvement Plan (UJIP).
According to GHMC, the primary objective of UJIP is to ensure seamless traffic movement at junctions thereby reducing overall journey time, facilitating free left movements, improving pedestrian facilities and other road safety infrastructure. In this regard, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has appointed a Consultant, M/s Urban Mass Transit Company Limited for proposing Junction Improvement at various locations in Hyderabad.
The Urban Junction Improvement Plan (UJIP) is being taken up by the Traffic &
Transportation wing of the GHMC. The Consultant was entrusted with a list of 30 junctions in the first phase for preparation of detailed Junction Improvement Plans. The plans are being developed keeping in view the increasing traffic over the next five to seven years.
The contemplated junction improvements will provide facilities like pedestrian refugee islands, footpaths, pedestrian guardrail and pelican crossing for the safety of pedestrians. The junction improvements will also include increasing the width of carriageway, improvement of free lefts by providing left turn channelizers, road markings and sign boards for improved traffic movement.
