GHMC to e-challan against violators

Mon 03 Jun 2019, 11:48:32
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation’s Enforcement Vigilance and Disaster Management (EVDM) is coming up with municipal challans, which will be issued for various violations. Imposing penalties on offenders for pasting wall posters without permission, putting up banners and cutouts, dumping debris and garbage, has been a challenge for GHMC.

Generally, wall posters, wall writings and banners are put up without prior permission from structure owners. Apart from political parties, commercial organisations like telecom companies, Internet service providers and others paste posters, put up banners on walls and road dividers. Similarly, littering roads, in front of shops, dumping garbage and waste in nalas etc is a frequent menace that the civic body has been grappling with.

To make such offenders fall in line, the corporation’s EVDM is coming up with the

e-challan system. Armed with images and videos of the violation, the challan will be issued to companies/organisations responsible for pasting posters or putting up banners on dividers and on private/public properties.

A special software is being developed for the purpose. For instance, if construction debris is dumped in front of a residential apartment or a house, the owner will be issued a challan. Likewise, commercial establishments will also be issued challans, if they dump trash on pavements or nalas, said GHMC EVDM Director Viswajit Kampati.

The software will facilitate in capturing images of violation, issue of challan on the spot and track status of the challan. The challan payment will also be done online. In addition to cracking the whip on offenders, the system will also aid in ensuring transparency, he said.
