The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has taken initiatives to identify vacant lands across the city, with the help of the Telangana Registration Department (TRD), for the imposition of Vacant Land Tax (VLT). During a review meeting on Tuesday, GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy briefed the concerned officials on the issue.
Government collects 0.5 percent of the total registration amount as vacant land tax. The GHMC has information regarding the owners of various
lands but, it lacks details on the lands which remain vacant, for which, the civic body sought help from the Registration Department.
Janardhan Reddy said a total of 72, 599 vacant lands have been identified so far out of which 69, 000 lands fall under the GHMC circle as informed by the Registration Department. He further added that information on 2, 53, 550 properties across the city were also acquired from the registration department.
