Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on Sunday created a forum to bring awareness on energy conservation by way of promoting LEDs in place of conventional lights by inviting the suppliers, energy analysts and RWA representatives with electrical engineers of GHMC and TSSPDCL.
Elaborate discussions were held on conservation of energy in households at a workshop held here on Sunday. M/s. Energy Efficiency Services Limited has given their presentation duly explaining the advantages of LEDs over the conventional lights. Under Central Govt.
UJALA scheme, they are ready to supply the 9W LED bulbs @ Rs. 80/E at their stores and @ Rs.90 (subsidized rate with 3 years warranty) at respective distribution point.
P.N. Rao and Gopal Krishna from Institute of Engineers
explained about conservation of energy by power point presentation.
It was discussed during the meeting that the glowing of LED of 9W is equivalent to 60/100W incandescent and 18W LED tube light is equivalent to 40W fluorescent tube light. By using LEDs energy will be saved by 60% thus in turn it reduces electricity bill.
The life of LED is far more i.e.,12 years when compared conventional tube light life of 6 years and life of incandescent bulb of 1 year. (based on 12 hours usage per day).
GHMC Commissioner Dr. B. Janardhan Reddy advised the electrical engineers of GHMC to motivate the public by way of campaigns at schools, colonies.
He also appealed to RWAs to take active role in the process to enlighten the public on a large scale in their colonies.
