The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation’s (GHMC) trade licence fee collections have surged by about Rs10 crore over the last year and the municipal corporation has now set a target to collect Rs.50 crore before the financial year ending.
Apart from collections, the issue of licences has also increased considerably in the city. During the 2015-16 financial year, GHMC had collected Rs 27.50 crore from 43,636 trade licences. This year, the municipal corporation has already collected Rs 37 crore till date this financial year, registering a growth of about Rs.10 crore. The number of trade licences also increased from 43,636 to 65,500.
With two months left before the conclusion of the current financial year, GHMC officials are now focusing on increasing the trade licence fee collections to Rs 50 crore.Effective monitoring, fixing internal lacunae, assigning specific roles to officials,

helped the municipal corporation in increasing the trade licence fee collections this financial year.
Apart from this, the municipal corporation had obtained 1.10 lakh licences data from commercial taxes department and electricity department. The same was synchronized with GHMC data.Among these, the GHMC officials segregated the licence fee payers list and fee evaders list. Among the evaders list, over 27,000 do not come under GHMC jurisdiction and few have shut their operations.
For the rest, messages were sent over phone to obtain trade licence and for those, who were operating unauthorised businesses, notices were issued, said GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy.
“Officials of different cadres will now be regularly monitoring the trade licence fee collection. We have set a target to collect another Rs 20 crore through trade licence fee before March 31,” said Reddy.
