Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is taking measures to make all the 150 wards under its limits as open defecation free zones by April 30.
GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy has already issued instructions to the Deputy Municipal Commissioners to ensure the wards are declared as open defecation free before the set deadline.
Already, the municipal corporation has identified households, which lack toilets facilities in the city and sanctioned necessary funds for constructing individual toilets. This apart, community toilets are also being constructed in slums and other areas.
Reddy directed authorities to
complete the construction of these toilets at the earliest. He also wanted them to submit a report on the number of wards declared as open defecation free, besides the deadline by which the others would be declared as defecation free wards.
Instructions were also issued to the authorities to submit details of number of application filed seeking construction of individual toilets and of those sanctioned in the city.
GHMC officials will now seek views and suggestions of local residents and prominent personalities in the area during their inspections in different areas before taking up any developmental in the areas.
