Commissioner M Dana Kishore said GHMC would cut water supply to hotels without OWC machines. As per Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016, and protocol for star-rating of garbage-free cities, bulk garbage generators producing 100kg waste per day have to install composting machines on their premises to process wet waste. Segregating and storing waste generated in three separate streams, degradable (wet waste), non-biodegradable (dry waste) and domestic hazardous wastes, in suitable bins or containers is
the responsibility of bulk garbage generators (BGG). As per SMW rules 2016 BGGs must process wet waste on premises and develop a system of reuse of products.
After GHMC warned hotels to set up compost units before November 15, the civic body is conducting a zone-wise exhibition of Onsite Waste Composting (OWC) machines. The demonstration and sale of compost machines are part of the exhibition. The exhibition will start from Friday.
