The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is laying plastic roads along with the tar and cement pathways, on the lines of one being followed in Bengaluru. The GHMC officials feel that the plastic roads will cost less and last long.
The GHMC has been contemplating on the plastic roads for long, but has now put it into practice by opting for the
experiment in the Uppal Metro Station area for a distance of 100 metres from the Nagole bridge to the station. The 16-feet wide road will cost only Rs 11 lakh.
The new pathway will be in place for three more years, say the GHMC officials, pointing out that the rainwater does not remain on the plastic roads, which was the main reason for damaged pathways.
