Water level in the Godavari increased rapidly and crossed the second warning level on Sunday at Bhadrachalam in the district.
At 6 pm on Sunday, the level crossed 50 feet and stood at 50.4 feet at 7 pm. The levels crossed the first warning mark at 7 am and touched the second warning level in the afternoon. District Collector Rajat Kumar Saini alerted the sectorial and mandal officers to closely monitor the situation. He directed the officials not to leave their place of
work.
A control room had been set up at the Sub-Collector office at Bhadrachalam to monitor relief operations. Two big boats were also kept ready at Bhadrachalam for relief operations. He said the water level was expected to rise further and reach 53 feet by Monday morning.
In view of the development, officials began preparations to evacuate people from Dandupet in Cherla mandal as it was the first among villages facing the threat of flooding.
