Peddapalli: In order to restore rail traffic on the Delhi-Chennai route, railway track repair works are continuing near Raghavapur in Palakurthy mandal where a goods train derailed late on Tuesday night.
A goods train transporting iron coils from Bellary to Ghaziabad had derailed near Raghavapur around 10 pm last night. Eleven rakes were scattered on the tracks. As a result, rail traffic between Delhi and Chennai was affected.
Several express and good trains have been cancelled following the derailment of the goods train.
Passengers faced troubles with the halting of trains. A large number of passengers gathered at Peddapalli bus stand as the passengers chose TGSRTC buses to reach their destinations.
Railway authorities began track
repair works by deploying cranes and staff. Since there is no road facility to the accident spot, which is 10 kilometres away from Peddapalli railway station, railway authorities are laying a temporary road through Kannala and Basanthnagar.
Besides removing the rakes that were scattered on tracks, electric line restoration and track repair works will be taken up. Railway authorities are planning to start a single line by evening.
Knowing about the incident, Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay Kumar spoke to South Central Railway officials and asked them to speed up restoration works.
Collector Koya Sree Harsha and other district officials visited the spot and are monitoring the repair works.
