Telangana Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan on Tuesday appealed to all organisations, including government, non-government and corporate ones, to come together to provide immediate assistance to flood-hit families in the state.

Stating that the heavy rains affected more than 10 million people, especially in northern and central parts of the state, she said that many have been rendered homeless and that the situation is worse than what was anticipated.

Directing the Indian Red Cross Society’s central, state and district offices to extend humanitarian aid, the Governor said: "More help is required, in terms of food, shelter, water purification chemicals and health camps. Relief centres have been opened, but they need

to be increased as floods continue."

"I also call upon NDRF teams to speed up rescue operations. To address the long-term impact, a comprehensive rehabilitation plan must be devised, including compensation for human loss and injured, support for basic needs,  reconstruction of permanent housing, and infrastructure. Let us join forces and work together to help these families overcome their grief and rebuild their lives," Dr Soundararajan said.

Sources indicated that the Governor will visit flood-hit areas, starting with the Bhadrakali Tank Bund in Warangal on Wednesday, to interact with affected families and review relief activities.
