Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu yesterday said the centre is proactive in developing airports wherever required, keeping in view the public need. Addressing the media, along with Union Coal Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy, in Hyderabad, Mr. Naidu said that through the revolutionary UDAN scheme, the government has taken airports to tier-two cities and tier-three cities in the country.
The minister said the Centre is ready to develop another airport in Bhadradri Kothagudem District of Telangana state, as the state has only one operating airport, and the Centre has given approvals recently for the development of Mamnoor airport near Warangal. He also said a feasibility study has once again been taken up at the site shown by the state
government for the airport near Bhadradri.
Stating that the development of airports plays a crucial role in the development of various sectors like tourism, education, and manufacturing, the Civil Aviation Minister said the NDA government at the centre is committed to the development of Telangana.
The minister further said efforts are on to develop an aerospace manufacturing hub in Telangana as the ecosystem is conducive for the sector to flourish. At Mamnoor airport, the minister said the Airport Authority of India (AAI) is ready with a master plan for the development of the airport and requested the state government to speed up land acquisition of 280 acres as early as possible.
