The government is set to launch the 10th round of the commercial coal block auction on 21st of this month. In this round, 60 blocks will be offered. The Union Minister of Coal and Mines G Kishan Reddy will launch the commercial coal block auctions in Hyderabad.
In a statement, Coal Ministry said that these blocks are strategically located across different states and regions and these will support regional economic development and help in employment generation. The upcoming coal mines are located in Bihar, Chhattisgarh,
Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Telangana and West Bengal. 16 mines will be offered in Odisha, followed by Chattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh wherein 15 coal mines will be auctioned.
Commercial coal block auction was launched by the Prime Minister in 2020. Since then, the Ministry has successfully auctioned 107 coal blocks during the last nine rounds. So far, 11 commercial coal blocks have been operationalized in the country.
