Hyderabad: Telangana State Haj Committee Special Officer Prof. S. A. Shukoor on Thursday informed that the Haj Committee of India (HCI) has allotted 200 seats under Mehram category, for such lady Haj pilgrims who want to perform Haj along with their male Mehram, who is already selected for Haj 2017.
Prof. Shukoor said that, as per Islamic Sharia (Law), a lady cannot undertake pilgrimage unless accompanied by a Mehram. If a lady who wants to perform Haj is left out and her only Mehram got a confirmation status, in such cases the female intending pilgrim may apply for inclusion in the cover of her Mehram who is already selected for Haj
2017.
Such intending lady pilgrims may submit their applications filled in all respects along with a requisite declaration on or before 8 May 2017.
He said that the Haj Committee of India would consider the applications on merit and in case of receipt of excess applications draw of lots (Qurrah) would be conducted to allot the Haj seats to eligible lady Haj applicants.
As many as 21 lady pilgrims from Telangana were selected in Qurrah for Haj 2016, he said.
