Harish Rao defends re-designing of irrigation projects

Hyderabad: Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao on Wednesday said that the irrigation projects in Telangana State were being re-designed as per the advise of Central Water Commission.

Harish Rao was speaking after launching the works for construction of seven check dams in Mahabubabad district at a cost of Rs. 23 crore. He said that the erstwhile Warangal district would be the major beneficiary of Kaleshwaram project.

He said that the State Government was re-designing the projects, as per CWC advise, to provide irrigation facilities in all districts of Telangana by ensuring effective utilisation of Krishna and Godavari Rivers. However, he said



that the Congress party was opposing the re-designing to stop the projects.

The minister said that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao has been taking several decisions to benefit farmers and develop the agriculture sector.

He said nine hours of quality power was being supplied to farmers across the State. He also listed out other measures being taken by the government to support farmers.

Later, the minister held a review meeting at the residence of Dornakal MLA Redya Naik. Speaking on the occasion, he said that the water would be released from Sriram Sagar Projec to Mahabubabad by the end of this year.
