The two judge PIL bench of the High Court at Hyderabad comprising acting Chief Justice Dilip Bhosale and Justice P. Naveen Rao on Monday directed the civic authorities to proceed with fencing or constructing a boundary wall till the FTL of the Ramanthapur lake in the city. The bench disposed of a batch of nine cases spread in time and sweep.
In one of the writ petitions it is complained that garbage was being dumped by the Municipal authorities and surrounding Hotel owners into the Ramanthapur Peddacheruvu, leading to a stinking odour and also the danger of spreading of diseases like malaria.
In yet another petition the petitioners alleged that the authorities were seeking to forcibly evict them from their lands abutting the tank. In a detailed order on Monday, the bench directed the authorities to have the area surveyed by the Assistant Director Survey and Settlement and identify the FTL.
The bench also made clear that the owners of the private lands if any identified in the FTL would be paid compensation and it would be cordoned off protecting the lake. The order should put to rest a controversy of nearly eight years. The first of the nine writ petitions were filed way back in 2008.
