The Telangana High Court on Tuesday summoned the Rangareddy and Hyderabad district collectors as well as the GHMC commissioner to appear on December 27 for their failure in complying with court orders issued 10 years ago in relation to illegal constructions made in lake beds in several instances.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice Jukanti Anil Kumar was dealing with a petition filed in 2007, based on a communication addressed to the then Chief Justice. It mentioned illegal constructions in the tank bed areas of Durgam Cheruvu , Sunnam Cheruvu , Pedda Cheruvu at Pirvadiguda , China Dhamara Cheruvu at Dundigal, China Rayuni Cheruvu, Ganga Ram Pedda Cheruvu, Medikunta Cheruvu near Sriranganatha temple, Nanakramguda, Nalla Cheruvu and Pirzadigura Cheruvu at Uppal, Hasmatpet Cheruvu, Bairamalguda,
Nallagandla Cheruvu and Golidodda Cheruvu at Serilingampalli, Ambheer Cheruvu in Dundigal mandal.
On the court’s instructions in 2007, the Rangareddy district judge inspected the spots and submitted a report on October 4 that year. The court found that no action had been taken by the revenue department for removal of the encroachments.
On June 10, 2013, the High Court passed orders directing the revenue department to prepare a fresh report with regarding the status of the tank beds in question. The court also directed it to mark the full tank level, fix the boundaries and mark contours by stones. The Rangareddy and Hyderabad district collectors and the GHMC commissioner were directed to prepare a joint report. The court found that no report had been filed.
