The Health minister, Dr. C. Laxma Reddy, on Wednesday conducted surprise inspections at Gandhi Hospital and placed a senior Resident Medical Officer (RMO), Dr. Saraswati, under suspension for alleged negligence in discharging duties.

The Health minister, who interacted with officials for over three hours and inspected several departments, said that a state-of-the-art Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with 65 beds will be soon be added to the hospital.
A round-the-clock advanced laboratory diagnostic facility, which will provide services to outsiders at a nominal cost, will also come up at Gandhi Hospital,

Following the recent incidents at the hospital, the latest one being allegations of ‘expired’ injections administered to 12 children who developed allergic reactions, this is the second visit of the minister to the hospital in the past one month.

Dr.Laxma Reddy checked availability of wheelchairs, stretchers and vital life-saving medicines in the casualty wing and inspected the emergency medical department, ICU blocks and several patient recovery wards at the hospital.
