Sudden rains during the Monday morning rush hour disrupted the start of the working week as morning chores got delayed and traffic bottlenecks started forming much earlier in the day than usual. Although the spell was a moderate one, several areas were inundated with knee-deep water.
The rainy day, however, turned into a pleasant evening as people came out of their homes to enjoy the pleasant winds, sip on hot beverages and take in the fresh air.
App-based cab aggregators and auto-rickshaw drivers made a quick buck as the rain led to a surge in demand for taxis. Bike taxis, conversely, were affected as the demand fell due to the rain.
Among the worst affected areas was Lingampally, where an underpass was clogged
with rainwater. Waterlogging was also reported in Gachibowli, Gudimalkapur, Moosarambagh, Chendrayangutta, Malakpet and Saidabad.
In Madhapur and Banjara Hills, incidents of house wall collapse were reported, while the rain and winds uprooted trees in Sainikpuri, Langar Houz and at KBR Park.
According to the directorate of enforcement vigilance and disaster management (EV&DM), 39 complaints were received in all, of which 12 were tree falls, 20 were waterlogging and one wall collapse.
Teams are working round the clock, officials said. The command control centre is monitoring the movement of clouds and alerting the teams in the zones, they said.
