Heavy to very heavy rains are expected across the Telangana State over the next three days under the influence of the monsoon as well as the cyclonic circulations.

Since Thursday night, heavy rain occurred at isolated places and rain occurred at most places in the districts of Mancherial, Peddapalle, Kamareddy, Adilabad, Jagitial, Rajanna Sircilla, Nizamabad, Nirmal and Kumaram Bheem Asifabad. The highest rainfall of 11 cm was recorded in Chennur of Mancherial district and Julapalle in Peddapalle district followed by 10 cm in Machareddy of Karimnagar district and 9 cm in Utnoor of Adilabad district.

Erstwhile Adilabad, Nizamabad, parts of Karimnagar, Warangal and Khammam districts witnessed heavy downpour over the last 24 hours. Continuous drizzle was prominent in major parts of erstwhile districts of Karimnagar, Warangal, Medak, Khammam, and Rangareddy. Power supply, telephone and digital cable services were disrupted in some rural parts of Adilabad and Nizamabad districts due to heavy rain coupled with strong winds.

However, the officials responded quickly and restored the facilities.

The officials at the Hyderabad regional centre of Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) attributed the rains to the Southwest monsoon. On Friday evening, an upper air cyclonic circulation lies over North Chhattisgarh and neighbourhood between 2.1 km and 4.5 km above mean sea level, while another upper air cyclonic circulation at 7.6 km above mean sea level lies over Marathwada and neighbourhood.

“As a result, heavy to very heavy rain is very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Adilabad, Nizamabad, Nirmal, Jagtial, Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Peddapalle, Karimnagar, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Warangal (urban and rural), Bhadradri Kothagudem, Kamareddy, Khammam, Sangareddy, Vikarabad, Medak and Rajanna Siricilla for next 48 hours,” said the duty officer at the IMD. The rain might slow down on Sunday resulting in heavy rain at isolated places across these districts.
