Hyderabad witnessed heavy rainfall in several parts of the city on Thursday morning resulting in flood-like situation in few places.
The rains, part of the four-day heavy pre-monsoon rainfall forecast by the Indian Meteorological Department till June 11, forced the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation to press its emergency teams into service across the city while Central Emergency Vehicles were positioned at seven spots.
According to GHMC officials, water logging was reported at Amberpet, Begum Bazaar, Balkampet, Putlibowli, Ameerpet, Tarnaka, Begumpet, Golnaka, SP Road, Musheerabad and Nimboli Adda, to mention a few places. The emergency vehicles were on the job at
Greenlands, NIMS, Khairatabad, Rang Mahal, Ameerpet, Bathukamma Kunta and Exhibition Grounds.A tree that was uprooted on Road No 12 Banjara Hills was being cleared while monsoon action teams were clearing water stagnation at many places including Lalapet and Puranapul.
Up to 6 am, the rainfall recorded was 55.3mm at Malkajgiri, 48mm at Balanagar, 44mm at Amberpet, 43mm at Uppal, 39mm at Khairatabad and 39mm at Himayat Nagar.
Officials at the IMD Hyderabad said satellite pictures showed an intense convection with deep clouds.
GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy has directed all monsoon teams to be alert.
