Heavy rain lashes Warangal City

Warangal: Very heavy rains lashed Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) limits and some other mandals in Hanamkonda and Warangal districts from 8.30 am on August 29 to 8 am on August 30. Geesugonda mandal under Warangal district recorded 15.9 CM rainfall, while Hasanparthy mandal recorded 11.74 cm and Kazipet mandal received 10.6 CM rain. Due to the impact of the downpour on Sunday night and in the wee hours of Monday, several low-lying areas have been inundated by the floodwater.

Mayor Gundu Sudharani, who has visited the colonies flooded by the rainwater in the 28 th, 39 th, 40 th and 41 st divisions, has directed the officials to take immediate steps to drain the water. She also interacted with the people who were provided shelter at a relief centre at Santhoshimatha



Garden. 

People of Mysaiah Nagar and Kashikunta were shifted to the relief centre as the water entered the houses. Some portion of a road was washed away at the DK Nagar in the 40 th division. Much to the surprise of the people, a car was found in the storm water drain near Ambedkar Bhavan in Hanamkonda.

Helpline centre: Following the directions of the State in view of heavy rainfall in the next two days, Collector, Hanammonda, Rajeev Gandhi Hanumanthu said that they had set up a toll-free number 1800-425-1115 to receive grievances regarding the rainfall from the people. On the other hand, the GWMC has also set up another helpline with toll-free numbers 800 425 1980, 9701999645 (Mobile) and 7997100300 (WhatsApp). Several parts of the erstwhile Warangal recorded heavy rainfall on Monday too.
