Officials at tributed the light spell of rainfall to the presence of a trough which is running from the Rayalaseema region up to the Gulf of Mannar.

“Due to this trough, cloud development took place over Hyderabad and its adjoining areas resulting in rains. We

predict light rainfall activity is expected over the city of Hyderabad during the next 24 to 48 hours,“

During the last spell of heavy rainfall, Y V Rama Rao, consulting meteorologist, Telangana State Development Planning Society , said: “This is an annual affair. The southwest monsoon is active over the Deccan peninsula during this time of the year.“

Usually , there are winds originating from the northeastern region, which converge with the moisture laden winds originating from the Arabian Sea. The point of convergence is over the state especially , Hyderabad. So under its influence it has witnessed heavy showers.“
