Heavy to moderate rains lashed some parts of Telangana on Monday, affecting road connectivity in villages and damaging standing crops.

The incessant rains damaged cotton crop in Venkatapuram, Govindaraopet, Tadvai, Mangapet, Venkatapuram  (Nuguru) and Eturunagaram in erstwhile Warangal district. Besides Warangal, Khammam, Karimnagar and Mancherial districts also reported moderate to light rains. Coal production in the opencast mine (Kakatiya) in Bhupalpally district was suspended on Monday due to heavy rains. Several streams, tanks and other water bodies were overflowing in the district.

Mancherial district recorded light to moderate rains, causing some damage to standing crops in some areas of the district. The district’s average rainfall was 22.7 mm with Hajipur mandal recording the highest rainfall of 78. 4 mm, followed by Naspur which saw 65 mm. Mancherial mandal witnessed 59.8 mm of rainfall. Dandeplli, Luxettipet, Vemanapalli, Mandamarri, Jaipur and Bheemaram mandals registered between 20 and 35 mm of rainfall.

Due to the rains, standing cotton, maize, red gram and soya crops were flattened, resulting in losses to farmers. The agriculture



authorities said a survey would be carried to assess the crop damage caused by rains soon.

In Jagityal, rivulets, tanks and other water bodies were overflowing due to incessant rainfall in the district from last couple of days. Road connectivity in several villages was affected due to overflowing floodwaters on roads. Five villages including Medipalli, Ibrahimpatnam, Mallaram, Kondapur and Kacharam in Medipalli mandal lost connectivity with the rest of the world due Kondapur tank overflowing.

Vehicular traffic on Medipalli-Chandurthi and Kondapur-Kacharam was suspended as roads were inundated. Standing crops in Raikal mandal were damaged as rainwater entered the agricultural fields.

Some mandals in erstwhile Khammam received light to moderate rain on Monday while the skies remained overcast in majority of the mandals in the district. The district headquarters of Kothagudem, Chunchupalli, Burgampahad, Yellandu, Paloncha, Laxmidevipally, Chandrukonda and Dummugudem mandals received rain. The district average rainfall was 1.3 mm in Kothagudem in the past 24 hours during which only six mandals witnessed rain.
