Wed 12 Sep 2018, 10:57:13
Heavy rains lashed the city on Tuesday evening, leaving many areas under sheets of water and affecting traffic flow. Contrasting weather conditions prevailed in the city as scorching heat prevailed till late afternoon and overcast climate took over in the evening eventually resulting in heavy rains.

The sudden spell of rains brought the much-needed relief from the hot and humid conditions in the city. According to the Met department, rain or thundershowers would occur towards afternoon or in the evening on Wednesday as well. Among all the areas till 8 pm, Asifnagar received highest rainfall of 68 mm, followed by Charminar and Serilingampally, which received 66.8 mm and 63.3 mm

respectively.

Waterlogging complaints were lodged from different areas in the city. People had a tough time in moving in the knee-deep water at Shilparamam, Madhapur, Cyber Towers, Kukatpally ROB, Raj Bhavan, Narayanguda, Basheerbagh and many areas. As a result, traffic moved at a snail’s pace on major routes across the city. Hyderabad Traffic Police appealed the motorists to avoid the Chief Minister’s Camp Office road.

GHMC Commissioner M Dana Kishore said a control room was set up to monitor the relief operations. He instructed the monsoon emergency teams and disaster response force teams to stay alert and clear the water logging to facilitate smooth flow of traffic.
