The State-run healthcare establishments in the State, in the past fortnight, have been literally working overtime to extend services to patients with viral fevers, dengue and malaria.
While the response to handle viral fevers has been swift, senior healthcare professionals have urged general public also to brace for the seasonal swine flu, which is endemic to Hyderabad and other districts in Telangana.
On Sunday, all the three top tertiary hospitals including Fever Hospital, Osmania General Hospital and Gandhi Hospital conducted outpatient services. The Fever Hospital received over 600 patients in its Outpatient Department on Sunday while the remaining two tertiary
hospitals together received close to 100 patients. “We have acquired new diagnostic equipment to conduct rapid dengue ELISA test and confirm the ailment in just a day. General public, however, must focus on taking preventive measures from seasonal flu and viral fevers,” added Dr Shankar.
“Inclement weather conditions have effectively extended the window of seasonal ailments from July till January in the State. At present, 90 per cent of the cases are viral fevers. But, people should be prepared to take precautions from seasonal swine flu, because September is known to trigger seasonal flu,” said Superintendent, Fever Hospital, Dr K Shankar.
