With the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) employees Joint Action Committee (JAC) calling off the 52-day strike and urging employees to turn up for duty, heavy security was deployed at all depots in the city on Tuesday.
Calling off the strike on Monday, the JAC had asked employees to go to their respective depots to resume their jobs. However, the TSRTC management has refused to reinstate the striking employees until the report of the Labour Commissioner.
The management also requested police security at all depots to prevent untoward incidents.
At least 100 policemen were deployed in the city depots including Jubilee Bus Station, Kukatpally, Uppal and Hayathnagar.
Since 6 am on Tuesday, conductors and drivers who have been turning to depots to rejoin the duty are being detained in preventive
custody.
At Jubilee Bus Station, the police officials took at least 10 employees into preventive custody.
The situation was similar at Nagole and Bandlaguda as around 50 employees were taken into custody in both the depots.
Police officials said that they have received instructions from higher authorities not to allow RTC employees to the depots and accordingly, necessary measures were taken to avoid inconvenience to bus passengers.
Condemning the behaviour of the authorities towards RTC employees, RTC JAC co-convener Raji Reddy said that police had no right to prevent the employees from resuming their jobs.
“We need an explanation on why employees are being arrested inspite of ending their strike and rejoin their duties,” he said.
