Osmania University administration has decided to ban the entry of all heavy vehicles including trucks, goods carriers, garbage trucks of the civic body round-the-clock on the main arterial road running through the campus, starting from June 5.
In a press release, OU stated that “only RTC buses will be allowed for the convenience of students and staff.”
The decision was taken keeping in view the safety of students and pedestrians. The vehicular traffic was on the rise each year causing traffic snarls and frequent
brawls. The university had to act as there were recurring complaints from student community,” said Prof Ch Gopal Reddy, OU registrar.
Several commuters from areas such as Tarnaka and Vidya Nagar, who use internal routes of OU will be affected. In February, a similar order was issued by OU restricting entry of private vehicles. The administration will explore the option of providing its own transport to ferry students and staff on the campus, thereby shutting its gates for public transport too.
