Hyderabad: Heart surgeons at Apollo hospitals, Hyderguda on Wednesday said that they have successfully implanted a hi-tech heart device ‘Left Ventricular Assist Device’ (LVAD heart mate 3), which was recently approved by US Food and Drug Administration, to save life of a 70-year-old man.

Syed Hasan, a chronic diabetic and hypertension patient, had already undergone bypass surgery for triple vessel block in 1995 and has implanted stents for blocked surgical grafts. In 2015, Syed Hasan also had a



stent implanted in the left main coronary artery at Apollo Hospitals.

“Given his age and medical history, instead of heart transplantation, we decided to opt for this most advanced hi-tech device,” says Chief Cardiac Surgeon, Apollo Hospitals, Hyderguda, Dr. K Venkat Reddy.

The heart device, which had received USFDA approval in August, 2017 costs close to Rs 70 lakh and is a heart pump system that enables a weak heart to deliver blood to all parts of the body.
