Vinayak the Hippopotamus (male)  at Nehru Zoological Park died of old age complications like off-feed, and anorexia on Sunday. He was about 43 years old. Vinayak had surpassed his lifespan (in captivity it is 38-40 years). He was brought from Henry Denver, Kenya on in 1976 and the age as on arrival was three years. 
The post-mortem was conducted by Dr M Navin Kumar, Dy.



Director (Retd.) and Zoo Consultant, Dr Muqueeth, Asst. Director (AH), VBRI, Shantinagar, Hyderabad, Dr MA Hakeem, Asst. Director (Vet.), Dr Asadullah, Vety. Asst. Surgeon and Dr G Shireesha, Vety. Asst. Surgeon (OS), Nehru Zoological Park. The findings are indicative of malignant tumour in between intestines about 2.5 kg of weight. The cause of death is ‘Congestive heart failure’.
