The vigilance officials of Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) busted a water tanker scam in the old city following which 45 criminal cases have been registered. Due to the scam, the department reportedly incurred a loss of around Rs 50 lakh per month, said HMW&SB in a press release.
Around 600 free water tankers from a filling station in Bahadurpura were being sent to Katedan Industrial Area every day following which a vigilance team was deployed. They took photographs and videos of tankers and verified the previous records and found it to be a scam.
“Every day, 500 to 550
free water tankers were being diverted to Katedan industrial area under the guise of free water tankers, adding to that two meters of filling station meters were tampered. Every day the board incurred Rs 4 lakh to Rs 5 lakh revenue loss,” said HMW&SB.
HMWS&SB Managing Director Dana Kishore initiated departmental action against those involved besides instructing the vigilance team to file criminal cases against those resorting to irregularities. A case has been registered under IPC 409,429 IPC in Kalapathar Police Station against filling station in charges and tankers owners as well as drivers.
