The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) is gearing up to take up extensive spraying of disinfectants at sewerage overflowing points and manholes.
In view of the lockdown, instructions were issued to officials to procure a sufficient quantity of alum and chlorine for treatment of water during the next three to four months. To this effect, the HMWSSB has decided to procure 7,000 litres of sodium hypochlorite, 300 spraying containers and 300 jackets for the personnel spraying the disinfectants.
One person with a spraying machine will be attached to each sewer cleaning
machine. The Director (Technical) has been instructed to take steps to restart the mineral water plant at Asifnagar and explore possibilities of tying up with private operators as a standby measure to meet the demand for packaged drinking water.
This apart, it was also decided to deploy 20 sewer cleaning machines to DRF wing of the GHMC, preferably two vehicles from each operations and maintenance division, for spraying disinfectants in different areas of the city. The vigilance wing was also directed to depute home guards to monitor the spraying operations.
