The state government on Monday extended the scheme paying honorariums to imams and muezzins in the state to a total of 17,000. In its orders, the minorities welfare department said previously, 9,995 Imams and muezzins were receiving an honorarium of Rs 5,000 per month, and
following a request from the Telangana Wakf Board, the government decided to extend it to another 7,005 individuals.
Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao had made the announcement on Sunday.
