The state government on Tuesday issued orders enhancing the honorarium of priests from Rs 6,000 to Rs 10,000 under the Dhoopa, Deepa, Naivedyam scheme.
Endowments minister A Indrakaran Reddy extended his gratitude to Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao for issuing orders enhancing the honorarium for priests.
"In undivided Andhra Pradesh, priests got only `2,500 per month honorarium. When Telangana state was formed and
the BRS came to power, the Chief Minister took a decision to increase the monthly honorarium to Rs 6,000. The government has now increased the amount to Rs 10,000," the minister said.
Earlier, 1,805 temples obtained the honorarium amount from the government. Now, the figure has gone up to 6,541 temples. Every year, the government spends Rs 78.49 crore to provide honorarium for priests, he said.
