A human milk bank was inaugurated on Friday at the Niloufer hospital, making it first such facility in Telangana. Anupriya Patel, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, inaugurated the bank and also launched the `MAA-Mothers Absolute Affection', a programme for promotion of breastfeeding.
“Sadly, India is one of the country in the world which is contributing to highest number of deaths of newborns, which is as high as 30 per cent of the deaths taking place worldwide,“ Anupriya Patel,
the MoS said.Authorities said the Dhaatri Mother's Milk Bank will cater milk to neonates, who are unable to get mother's milk.Director of Medical Education, Ramesh Reddy , said the human milk bank, the first-ofits-kind in the state will have all safety measures on par with international standards.
He further requested the minister to consider a proposal to turn Niloufer Hospital into a Centre of Excellence.The union minister readily said, she would look into the matter.
