Union Minister for Culture and Tourism G. Kishan Reddy and Union Minister for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said that the Hunar Haat exhibition was aimed at promoting local products at international level.

Addressing a gathering after inaugurating the 37th Hunar Haat on Sunday at NTR Stadium, Mr. Kishan Reddy has said that Unity in Diversity and Ek Bharat, Shreshta Bharat are seen in Hunar Haat. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s objective to launch Make in India is to promote local products in a global market, for which Hunar Haat provides one of the platforms.

He said as part of Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav, the Ministry of Minorities Affairs is organising 75 Hunar Haat Melas across the country. The Ministry aims to provide direct employment or employment opportunities to 7.5 lakh artisans and craftsmen.

“There is a huge demand for the organic, herbal and ayurvedic products, traditional clothing of different States, traditional food, clay products, toys, bags, bamboo products made from domestically available products and modified to the contemporary need with artistic skills which need to be appreciated,” said Mr. Kishan Reddy

Mr. Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said that for the first time since Independence, the government has started working on mission mode to promote indigenous legacy of artisans and craftsmen. Hunar Haat has given new energy and enthusiasm to lakhs of families, from far-flung areas of the country, engaged in traditional art and craftsmanship and markets to their ancestral legacy, he added.

BJP National OBC Morcha President K. Laxman, Home Minister Mahamood Ali, MP K. R. Suresh Reddy and others were



present.

More than 700 artisans and craftsmen from more than 30 states and UTs with rich traditional offerings are participating in the 37th ‘Hunar Haat’ being held at NTR Stadium, Indira Park.

The expo which is on till March 6 aims to provide opportunities for artisans and craftsmen to showcase and sell their products. Over the last seven years, the events have provided earning potential for around 8 lakh artisans and craftsemen, the organisers said.

The participating artisans and craftsmen in this edition of the expo in the city are from across the country including from Telangana, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, Ladakh, Jammu-Kashmir, Punjab, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh.

These artisans and craftsmen have brought with them rare handmade indigenous products made of clay, wood, iron, brass, marble, glass, etc. Also, for the food lovers, the venue has stalls that sell traditional cuisine from different regions of the country.

For entertainment, here is a circus and also a line-up of cultural and musical programmes by several popular artists. Renowned artists of the country such as Pankaj Udhas, Altaf Raja, Sudesh Bhosle, Suresh Wadekar, Mahalakshmi Iyer, Jr. Mahmood, Mohit Khanna, Bhupinder Singh Bhuppi, Rekha Raj, Upsana Singh, Nooran Sisters, Priya Mallick, Gunjan Saxena, Rani Indrani, Ankita Pathak, Ritesh Mishra are among the star performers at Hunar Haat.

Besides, as a part of “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”, the expo is also depicting beautifully, the history and role played by great freedom fighters of the country.

Hunar Haats will also be organised in New Delhi, Mysuru, Guwahati, Pune, Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Patna, Mumbai, Jammu, Chennai, Chandigarh, Agra, Prayagraj, Goa, Jaipur, Bengaluru, Kota, Sikkim, Srinagar, Leh, Shillong, Ranchi, Agartala and other places in the coming days.
