Hyderabad bags three awards in Smart Cities India Expo

Hyderabad has won awards in three different categories at the national level in the 2021 International Exhibition and 6th Smart Cities India Expo held during March 24-26 by the India Trade Promotion Organisation, a Government of India Enterprise.

Under the Green and Clean City category, the Rain Garden at Begumpet was the winner. The Rain Garden project had the HMDA taking up the development and beautification of the stormwater drain underneath the Begumpet flyover at the intersection of Kukatpally and Yousufguda nalas. The area proposed for development was about 5 acres of 400 metres in length with the nala flowing with sewage from upstream.

In the Smart Waste Disposal Project category, the New Municipal Solid Waste Management project won the award. The project comprises a city-wide network of fully mechanized Secondary Collection and Transport



Points (SCTPs). It is the first time in India that smart vehicles, coupled with portable self-compactors and hermetically sealed waste containers are being used for safe waste transport.

In the Startup category, We-Hub, a one of its kind initiative that has been instrumental in empowering women won the award. We-Hub, officials said, has created a supportive community for aspiring women entrepreneurs where they can interact with venture capitalists for funding, connect with corporates for scaling up their business.

The Smart Cities India awards is a unique platform designed to felicitate, recognise and encourage individuals, policymakers, companies, municipalities, government bodies and associations to illuminate the work done in both urban and rural sectors. Hyderabad’s projects won from among 586 applications.
