The Union Ministry for Housing & Urban Affairs has announced Swachh Survekshan '18 awards in which the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), Hyderabad, stood best capital city in India for Best Solid Waste Management.
Initiatives taken up by GHMC in solid waste management started with distribution of 44.04 lakh blue & green twin bins to 22 lakh households for dry & wet respectively with a cost of Rs 28.93 crore. Total Garbage Vulnerable Points (GVPs) eliminated and sustained since March 2016 are 1,116. To encourage the staff, best practices day is being practiced on every first Saturday where the best employee is felicitated.
The introduction of “Parichayam” an initiative of the Municipal
Corporation to build a strong public relationship and ensure accountability. Modern electronic SHE toilets are being provided at prominent locations especially at locations of high women footfall. Fuel station and hotel owners were persuaded through Gandhigiri to allow public to use their toilets. About 260 fuel stations and 323 hotels and restaurants have given consent for public to use their toilets.
With an aim to sensitize and create awareness, thematic drives are being carried out based on the thematic drive schedule notified by Swachh Bharat Mission- Ministry of Urban Development. Wall paintings were done to beautify the city and discourage citizens from defacing the Public and Private properties.
