The Opposition continues to mount a legal challenge to the early dissolution of the House even as more than a month has passed since the dissolution of Telangana legislative Assembly and the Election Commission has also announced the schedule for fresh elections,
Hyderabad High Court will hear on Wednesday a batch of petitions challenging the decision to dissolve the Assembly almost nine months in advance.
While senior Congress leader and former Minister D K Aruna filed a petition on Monday another was moved as a lunch motion by a senior lawyer and former MLA P Ramulu.
A bench of the High Court headed by the Chief Justice TBN Radhakrishnan will hear the petitions
along with several other petitions regarding the alleged discrepancies in the voters’ list day after tomorrow.
Aruna told the media that the State Cabinet crossed its brief in recommending the dissolution of the House without taking the legislators into confidence. “The House which was elected for five years was dissolved early for political benefits of the ruling party”, she said.
She also questioned the decision of the Governor ESL Narasimhan to accept the recommendation of the Chief Minister in a hasty manner. She questioned whether taking the opinion of the members before dissolution of Assembly was not required.
