The call for a Janata Curfew evoked positive response in the older parts of the city on Sunday.
In the morning, people in most parts of the old city were seen confined to their houses. Shops and business establishments remain closed. Traffic flow was also little on the roads.
However, milk vendors and medical stores are conducting business.
The GHMC
authorities are taking up a massive cleaning up operation in the old city. Teams from the Disaster Response Force are spraying disinfectants at public places.
Till late nights heavy rush was witnessed at the shops as panic-stricken public made purchases of essential items.
Meanwhile, religious scholars urged the Muslim community to avoid large gatherings on the occasion of Shab e Meraj.
