A total of 276 grievances were reported till evening after the heavy downpour on Sunday . According to officials of GHMC, most of the complaints were related to overflowing of manholes and waterlogged streets. Many cars broke down while fallen tree branches were spotted across the roads. A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) office wall also collapsed at Chandrayangutta, but fortunately no casualties were reported as it was Sunday .

Pools of water were witnessed at Madahapur near Hitex Bawarchi , Banjara Hills, Punjagutta, Khairatabad, Jubliee Hills. The peripheral areas of GHMC, including parts of Saroor Nagar, LB Nagar, Uppal , Ramanthapur, were the most affected.Commuters were seen rushing to safer places while some of them were taking shelter under the metro rail pillars to escape rain.

“Its been raining without stopping and after waiting for hours, I decided to take the plunge. But now I am stuck,“ said K Asish at Khairatabad. At Punjagutta's Model House area, one of the major waterlogging point in the city , stuck commuters were looking for sub-lanes to escape the sewage pool and reach the main road.

“As traffic was thrown out of gear at Road No-1,

Banjara Hills, I took a connecting road to reach Punjagutta,“ said Reetham Chandra, a commuter.Water gushed into houses in Kodandaram Nagar, Janapriya Apartments and Park View Colony in Secundrabad. Residents in these areas were panic-stricken and feared heavy downpour as the day passed.“Many valuables and vehicles parked in the veranda, electronics and furniture have been damaged. This is not the first time we are going through a nightmare during rains,“ said a woman at Kondandarama Nagar, who was pumping out water from her house.

Heavy rain is expected to continue for the next 48 hours. Officials attribute the rainfall to multiple systems passing over Telangana, leading to the formation of cumulonimbus clouds.

“Southwest monsoon has been active over Telangana in the last 24 hours. Hyderabad, Rangareddy and Mahabubnagar experienced very heavy rainfall at isolated places under the influence of upper air cyclonic circulation over north Bay of Bengal and its neighbourhood.

“A low-pressure area has formed over north Bay of Bengal and south Bangladesh,“ said YK Reddy , director in-charge of IMD, Hyderabad.
