The much-awaited ninth edition of Hyderabad Literary Festival-2019 began at the Hyderabad Public School here on Friday.
The three-day event opened with plenary sessions on Gujarati and Chinese languages, the two languages which are in focus during the literary festival. Bibliophiles, aesthetes, students, working professionals, all thronged the event which had something on offer for every visitor.
Ajay Gandhi, Director of the Festival, said they were expecting a footfall of 15,000 to 20,000 visitors over a period of three days. “We are expecting more people to turn up for this year’s edition of HLF as compared to the last year’s footfall of 17,000,” said Gandhi, adding that he himself was in a fix to choose between the events to attend.
“I do not know which event to choose because there is so much on offer in the field of arts,
awareness campaigns, talks and many more. I wish to be present at all the events at once,” said Gandhi.
From awareness campaigns on women safety to an exhibition on print making and 3D printing, Day One of HLF spoiled the visitors for choice.
Panel discussions on ‘#MeToo: The Way forward’ , ‘Demonetisation: A Conversation’ and ‘Bollywood and Beyond’ had grown-ups in majority, while a flash mob and a session on 3D printing caught the eye of students.
The ‘Dappu- Telangana Folk’ was another crowd-puller, as it saw visitors and volunteers shaking a leg to the quintessential beats of drums.
Principal Secretary (IT) Jayesh Ranjan, who is also the president of the HLF, said the event was one of a kind as it was an independent event unlike the Literary Fests held in other cities across the country.
