City residents have lost Rs 140.02 crore to cybercrime this year, according to the annual report released on Friday. By itself, the specialised cybercrime police station received 2,735 cases with a financial loss of Rs 133.59 crore.
The city police registered 4,264 cybercrime cases, in which 1.05 lakh persons were duped. The
police arrested 650 persons.
Police commissioner K. Sreenivasa Reddy said that they are focusing on training cybercrime personnel on investigation, detection and other aspects of cybercrimes, in view of the growing threats from deepfakes, artificial intelligence and crypto frauds.
