Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) is now planning to develop a walkway to facilitate passengers carry their luggage using trolleys as in airports.
Focusing on provision of amenities, Metro Rail officials are working on developing proper bus bays, auto bays, e-vehicle bays etc., for regulating haphazard traffic and parking at the Nampally station.
During an inspection from Punjagutta to MJ Market stations on Sunday, HMRL Managing Director, NVS Reddy, instructed officials to provide ramps at the end of all footpaths for the convenience of pedestrians, especially senior citizens and physically challenged persons.
He instructed them to clear all encroachments on footpaths especially between Punjagutta and Khairatabad on priority basis. Railings and bollards should be set up to prevent parking and driving of vehicles on footpaths, said Reddy.
Small strips of government land should be acquired from the government departments concerned to widen the footpaths at Errum Manzil and Assembly Metro Rail stations, he said.
HMRL General Manager (Works), B N
Rajeswar, was asked to pursue the vacation of High Court stay orders for taking up the construction of entry and exit at one of the arms at Khairatabad Metro rail station.
With the annual Numaish fast approaching, he was also directed to coordinate with L&TMRHL and the Exhibition society for setting up of additional ticket counters before December 31 for the convenience of those visiting the exhibition.
HMRL is making all efforts to expedite the proposed ‘Heritage Precinct’ theme works on the 5-km stretch from Police Control Room to MGBS Metro rail station. As part of the project, continuous and wide footpaths for seamless pedestrian movement are being developed in the stretch.
Railings with heritage look, classic patterns of tiles and stone flooring, restoration of heritage structures and buildings, liberal usage of cobble stones, vintage looking arch ways, street furniture, electrical fittings interspersed with sculptures, art work, classical signage etc., will form part of the heritage precinct development, said a press release.
