Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) is now focusing on completing the works on Jubilee Bus Station (JBS) – Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS) by September this year.

The 10-km JBS-MGBS route is part of the corridor II from JBS to Falaknuma. There are eight stations on the JBS-MGBS route and works have been going on at brisk pace on the route.

All the works pertaining to viaduct construction are completed and at present, station works including roofs are being executed. Save for Chikkadpally and Narayanguda, the arms at one end of the stations are nearing completion, said a senior official from HMRL.

“Efforts are being made to complete all the civil works by June, following which overhead cabling, signaling and other works will be taken up. The target is to complete all the works by September,” he said.

For the balance 5.5 kms from MGBS to Falaknuma stretch on the old city route, survey for land

acquisition is almost completed and so is the markings exercise.

After the launch of services on the Ameerpet- Hitec City route, 56 kms of Metro operations are underway making Hyderabad Metro the second largest Metro in the country after Delhi Metro.

Every day, nearly 2.2 lakh passengers are travelling in the Metro services, of these an estimated 40,000 are travelling on the Ameerpet-Hitec City route. Similarly, Metro officials are anticipating heavy rush on the JBS-MGBS route once the services commence.

Since the route passes through one of the densely populated corridors of the city, besides being a high traffic zone, the patronage is expected to be definitely encouraging. More importantly, the JBS-MGBS route serves as an important connectivity between JBS, Secunderabad railway stations with the MGBS and this will make things very convenient for long distance travelers.
