The travel time on the Hyderabad Metro Rail along the 30 km stretch from Nagole to Miyapur, could be reduced significantly from April, while the number of trains could also go up from the existing 18 to 22 trains.
To make this possible, the L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad (L&TMRHL) is making efforts to stabilise operations and increase the frequency of trains from the existing one train every 7 minutes to one train every 6.5 minutes. The travel time, for the 30 km distance, is about 1 hour 20 minutes presently, with the target being to cover the stretch in one hour.
The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety needs to give permission
and once that is done, the number of trains will also be increased from the existing 18 to 22 hopefully from April, L&TMRHL Chief Operating Officer Anil Kumar Saini said here on Wednesday.
“At present, 400 trips are being operated on the 30 km stretch. There is a demand from commuters to extend the timings of operations late into the night as well. Accordingly, possibilities are being explored to extend services till 11.30 pm instead of the existing 11 pm, at least on weekends to start off. Morning train services could start 30 minutes late against the existing time of 6 am once the changes are in place,” Saini said.
