Hyderabad Metro Train Makes 5 Lakh Mark

Five lakh and ten thousand people took the Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) on Monday, the ridership boosted by IT staff returning to work, congestion on the roads and the shutdown of 22 MMTS services.

N.V.S. Reddy, MD, Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited, told this newspaper that the Miyapur-LB Nagar Corridor 1 recorded 2.6 lakh passengers; 25,000 on Corridor 2 between JBS and – MGBS and 2.25 lakh on the Corridor 3 from Raidurg to Nagole. Raidurg saw the highest number of passengers at 32,000, followed by LB Nagar 30,000; Ameerpet 29,000 and Miyapur:



23,000.

Asked about the total number of trips, N.V.S. Reddy said, "That's a complex calculation which we do on the overall number, taking into account the interchange trips."

K.V.B. Reddy, MD & CEO, L&TMRHL, said, "It is a momentous occasion for us, and we dedicate this success to our valued commuters who have shown their solidarity." He said the Covid-19 pandemic had had a negative impact on the Metro Rail. "Through the consistent efforts and hard work by our respective teams, today we could taste success."
